La compañía de soluciones logísticas integrales Hidrovias do Brasil S.A.(HBSA), acaba de firmar una alianza con el astillero brasileño Belov para la construcción de dos unidades de remolcadores eléctricos, que le permitirán ampliar su capacidad de transporte fluvial de manera sostenible. La medida forma parte de un plan integral para reducir el impacto ambiental de sus operaciones, que se extienden por Brasil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina y Uruguay.
Los nuevos equipos de remolque de barcazas estarán listos para operar a partir de 2022. Al incorporar la tecnología de alimentación eléctrica, se reducirá la emisión de gases contaminantes sustituyendo la propulsión con diésel marino convencional por generación híbrida con baterías eléctricas, sin perder eficiencia y con la posibilidad de utilizar energía eléctrica renovable. Con el funcionamiento de estos modelos de remolcadores, la atmósfera dejará de recibir hasta 2.168 toneladas de CO2 (dióxido de carbono) al año, lo que equivale al consumo de 472 automóviles en el mismo período de tiempo.
La elección del remolcador de maniobras para llevar a cabo este proyecto también fue estratégica, ya que se trata de embarcaciones de uso continuo, es decir, con una mayor emisión de gases contaminantes, y que actúan siempre cerca del puerto y centros poblados que resultan beneficiados con la reducción de factores contaminantes. “La empresa ha invertido en innovación y está estudiando nuevas alternativas con menor impacto ambiental para incrementar su flota, con la premisa de garantizar su crecimiento a través de una plataforma sustentable, en línea con las mejores prácticas de la comunidad internacional”, estima Fabio Schettino, presidente de Hidrovias do Brasil.
